We walked a few hundred meters and found a petrol station, they directed us to Auberge des Nomades, it wasn't far away and when we arrived there was yet again no sign of Alex.
We decided that she must be staying elsewhere or have gone further afield with Massimo. We went off to find an internet cafe and I found an apologetic e-mail from her saying that she had indeed gone off to explore more of Mauritania with Massimo proir to flying home on New Years Day from Atar.
Going back towards the Auberge the next mission was to find somewhere to eat .. there were plenty of restaurants around and eventually we settled for a kebab and coke.
Incredibly our room at Auberge des Nomades was 5,000UM a night shared by the three of us including air conditioning. This posed a problem as now that we had air-con Julian wanted it on permanently which kept both Gianni & I awake. Gianni was the furthest from the machine and it was bitterly cold that side of the room, whilst I was underneath it the noise was waking me up each night so turning it off each time it was left on got a bit much. The other worry was whether we would be charged extra for it as electricity is not cheap in Africa!
